Location

Gwanghwamun is in central Seoul, directly in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace.

The easiest route is:

  • Line 5 – Gwanghwamun Station
  • Line 3 – Gyeongbokgung Station
  • Line 1 – Jonggak Station is also within walking distance

For first-time visitors, I recommend Gwanghwamun Station because you arrive right next to the square.

Highlights

Start at Gwanghwamun Square and walk north toward the palace.

Along the way, you can see:

  • Admiral Yi Sun-sin Statue
  • King Sejong Statue
  • Gwanghwamun Gate
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace

The best part is that everything is close together, so you can explore the area on foot without rushing.

BerryJune Tip

A local favorite near Gwanghwamun is the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History (대한민국역사박물관).

If you go, make sure to check out the rooftop garden. The view over Gwanghwamun is beautiful and feels like a hidden spot in the middle of the city.
